Only about 11,000 Sonata sedans and luxury Nexo SUVs from 2020 are being recalled due to a bug in the Remote Smart Parking Assist Software.

The Remote Smart Parking Assist Software may fail to detect vehicle movement and, as a result, may fail to stop to prevent a collision. This software issue dramatically increases the risk of crashing upon self-parking.

Imagine trusting your vehicle to self-park itself, and instead of getting in parking space, it hits another vehicle instead. That would cause quite a headache!

What Hyundai Drivers Should Do

On June 4th Hyundai will begin notifying drivers who are affected by this software issue. However, if you don’t want to wait that long, you can call Hyundai at 855-751-9460 to ask about if your vehicle is under recall.

You can also call the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) hotline at 888-327-4236 or visit their website here to search your vehicle identification number (VIN).

If your 2020 Hyundai is being recalled for this issue, at least you will have an easy fix. All you need to do is make an appointment with your local Hyundai dealership to have the Smart Parking Assist software updated.

You do not have to visit the same dealership where you purchased your 2020 Hyundai Sonata or Nexo to receive this free service. You can find a local option nearby instead.

Hood Latch Issues

In 2016, Hyundai Tucson models from 2015 and 2016 were recalled due to having hood latch issues. The hood latch may be faulty and release while the vehicle is in motion.

If the primary latch is released, the secondary latch may be unable to hold the hood closed as the vehicle increases in speed.

As a result, the hood could become unsecure and suddenly open during transit, blocking the driver’s view of the road and increasing the risk of crashing.

Drivers under this hood latch recall have to return to a Hyundai dealership to have their hood latch replaced.

Engine Cooling Issues

In 2017 Hyundai issued a recall for particular 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport models due to having engine and engine cooling issues.

This issue may be caused by faulty machining within the engine or engine block. As a result of failing to cool the engine properly, it may seize or experience premature wear. Also, if the engine seizes, the risk of crashing increases.

Again, all Hyundai owners have to do is return to the dealership to have this issue fixed for free. However, this appointment may take a little longer.

The engine will have to be inspected for any damage, and the engine block may need to be replaced.

Remember to pay attention to recalls and to take them seriously. Every vehicle brand may experience potentially dangerous issues that can be fixed for free before an accident occurs.
